Historical relics that shed light on the life and culture of the past
It was the residence of the family of Heungseon Daewongun, a relative of the royal family, and the place where Emperor Gojong, the 26th king of the Joseon Dynasty, was born and raised. The residence was once grand enough to rival the royal palace, but only the Noandang Hall, Norakdang Hall, and Irodang Hall structures remain today. If you step into the palace, you will be greeted with displays of the history, culture, and life of the time including the furnace displaying Ondol (Korean floor heating system) culture, clothing, blankets, and furniture of the bygone era and an exhibition hall narrates the stories of Emperor Gojong, Heungseon Daewongun, and Empress Myeongseong.
