Yoonsoo Yeo cello
Yoonsoo Yeo is a South Korean cellist recognized for his expressive artistry and technical command. He has won First Prize in numerous prestigious competitions, including the International Cello Competition Antonio Janigro, Schoenfeld International String Competition, Sung-Jung National Music Competition, and Ewha-Kyunghyang National Cello Competition.
He made his solo debut in 2013 with a recital at Kumho Art Hall, followed by a recital at the Seoul Arts Center in 2018. In 2016, he became the youngest recipient of the Frans Helmerson Award from the Kronberg Academy in Germany. That same year, he joined the DITTO Ensemble as its youngest member, performing in its Tenth Anniversary Concert Tour. Most recently, he received the Gastgeber Prize at the Carl Flesch Academy in Germany.
Yeo has appeared as a soloist with orchestras including the Suwon Philharmonic, Ulsan Symphony, Baden-Baden Symphony, GMMFS Orchestra, and the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie. He has been featured on From the Top, the acclaimed classical radio program, and performed in the "Rising Star" series at the Great Mountains Music Festival and School. He also appeared at Carnegie Hall as part of the Curtis on Tour series with fellow artists and faculty.
Yeo entered the Korea National University of Arts at age 15 and later continued his training at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Carter Brey and Peter Wiley. Yeo performs on a cello by Carl Becker of Chicago 1934, on generous loan from Mr. Higgin Kim through Sejong Soloists.
