The hexagonal-shaped basalt columns formed as thick lava cooled rapidly. The massive columns are about 1 km wide and have been designated as Korea's Natural Monument No. 443 in recognition of their exceptional value. It is famous for the spectacular views created by the high waves, and there are numerous walking trails and photo spots in the area, making it an excellent location for photography.
