Seoul Royal Guard Changing Ceremony
서울 왕궁 수문장 교대 의식
Witness a traditional Joseon palace ritual that reenacts the changing of the guard
This event recreates the changing of the guard at the main gate of the palace during the Joseon Dynasty. It consists of three rituals: the "Gyodae Ritual," in which the guards rotate their duties, the "Suwi Ritual," in which they guard the Daehanmun Gate, and the "Sunra Ritual," in which they patrol the castle grounds while dressed in colorful traditional costumes in a dignified manner. Each ritual has a different duration, so it's best to ask before going.
There are special experiences to make memories, such as "I am the gatekeeper," where you can dress up in traditional costumes and perform the changing of the guard ceremony, and "Gaesiktago," where you can beat the giant drum as a drummer. After the event, take a stroll around Deoksugung Palace's expansive grounds, making it an ideal date night destination.
