Culture village with houses built on top of tombstones and graveyards
Murals and an observatory add to the fun of exploring the city
Neighborhood on a hill where tombstones with traditional Japanese family crests are embedded in walls, stairs, and other places. Originally a cemetery during the Japanese occupation of Korea, it was transformed after the Korean War as refugees began to build houses from the cemetery and tombstones, giving the village a unique appearance today. Despite the painful history of the war refugees, it is now popular as a tourist attraction with murals depicting the lives of its residents during at era. A "sky observatory" offers stunning views of the city center. Visitors should be mindful that the houses are still occupied and avoid any action that could be seen as disrespectful.
