Public Holidays in September
Every country has its own set of public holidays, so what does September look like in Korea? Here are some tips for you during the Korean holidays.
Chuseok
Thanksgiving Holidays
From September 16th to 18th, Korea celebrates Chuseok, one of the country’s major holidays. Traditionally, people make and eat dishes like songpyeon (rice cakes), fresh fruits, and yakgwa (honey cookies). While it used to be common to visit one’s hometown to perform memorial service for ancestors during Chuseok, more and more people are choosing to spend the holiday differently or travel.
Keep in mind that some restaurants and cafes may be closed during the Chuseok holidays, so make sure to check in advance. While more places stay open nowadays, many businesses take a break on the day of Chuseok, which is the 17th of September.
